A HUGE milestone has been reached!!
ABOUT LEGO SET 31129
LEGO Creator 31129: Majestic Tiger was released in the year 2022, and prior to this project, I had made nine Transformers using this versatile set!! The most recent one turned into a Batwing from Batman 1989 movie! (video below)
ABOUT SCORPONOK
Scorponok is a character from G1 Transformers cartoon series, and he turned into a huge scorpion and also a base for evil Decepticons to hang out in.
Over the years, many versions of Scorponok appeared but its the G1 version that is most memorable to me , due to my preferences towards Transformers with base mode.
I've build many Transformers with scorpion mode too and I might have shamelessly called them Scorponok, despite not having a base mode.(Below)
Well, time is ripe for me to attempt building Scorponok that closely resemble his G1 version, with base mode and all! And set 31129 is a perfect set
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
This project is officially my tenth Transformers made using set 31129! What a milestone indeed!
I started this project by building his claws first.
When I just started to prop his scorpion mode up for photo session, I discovered that it kept tilting back from the weight of its body. Then I halted everything and spent the next hour modifying the creation to allow it to be more upright and tilt less.
Initially his legs were shorter because the set provided a good number of 1 x 4 plates for me to build his 8 legs. Then I decided to make them longer by using 1 x 6 plates instead.. but the set provided just 6 of them. Anyway.... I discovered a nice workaround to make things work in the end.
The component above is the shield for his robot mode, and also integrated into the base mode too. Here,I decided to integrate this shield into the scorpion mode (which is not an official feature in the actual G1 Scorponok toy I think, correct me if I'm wrong!).
The integration process required me to make final-hour changes to this creation before I snap these photos.
Seen above is Fasttrack, a companion tank for Scorponok. Officially he can transform into a robot too. But I'm left with a handful of useful parts to build him in just the tank mode. At least his color is absolutely spot on compared to the official toy!
TRANSFORM TO BASE MODE
BASE MODE
There are studs on top of the legs that I initially had built 2 small cannons to be connected there. But I cancelled them because they kept popping out when I attempted to transform between modes.
I still prefer the side ramps to face forward (above).
TRANSFORM TO ROBOT MODE
ROBOT MODE
Compared to the official toy, my Scorpy's shoulder mounter cannons are located on his back instead of front.
The spurs on his crotch were the enhancements mentioned earlier to ensure the scorpion mode is upright rather than tilting back.
Note how the base mode ramps neatly ended up on his feet. This is one of the happy, accidental outcomes that was unplanned for. Initially I implemented a dedicated heel but undo
The shield almost never made ie because I'm usually not to keen in partsforming Transformers. But seeing how cool the original art of G1 Scorponok is wielding his shield, and how it improved upon the base mode.... I finally decided to built it!
