this creation is a good of example of "lazy me" in action.
PROLOGUE
I always will try hard to focus building Transformers using the latest LEGO sets for the year. Creator 31382: Playful Puppy is one of them and so far prior to this project , I only made one Transformer using this set. (video below)
After I dismantled the creation above, I spent about an hour to fiddle around with the parts to build more "complex" Transformers but ended up hitting a wall. By then I was getting lazier, and decided to opt for "low hanging fruit" alternative modes like space cruisers instead . However.... there's been a glut of space cruiser modes that I made recently.Finally.... a stag beetle mode aka Insecticon Shrapnel was chosen.
ABOUT INSECTICONS
Insecticons is a team of Transformers with insect as alternate modes, in G1 Transformers cartoon series. And the initial 3 from the gang ..... Shrapnel, Kickbacks and Bombshell .... are pretty simplistic in transformations too.
Shrapnel being my favorite of the trio, turns into a stag beetle. Over the years... I made quite a few Shrapnels too using official LEGO sets. One of them (video below) was made using set 31166: Beautiful Horse!
ABOUT THIS CREATION
In started this project by building his pincers first. The litmus test of whether the project will go well down the rad , in this case..was how I able to implement the cannons on the pincers just like in his original insect mode
TRANSFORM!
ROBOT MODE
I personally dislike original G1 Shrapnel pincers hovering above his shoulders, so I decded to fold them to his back instead.
MORE ACTION POSES
The gun was built last before I wrapped this project up. as you can see earlier.. it served to fill the gap in his insect mode where the robot legs formed.
VIDEO TUTORIAL
The following video contains tutorial on how to build this creation, except the head and gun. Alternatively, I am offering the complete instructions for sale in my rebrickable link below. Support me please so I can be motivate to build even more cool stuff!
