My first Lio Convoy built using official LEGO sets!
PROLOGUE
About 2 years back.... I bought LEGO set 31150 Wild Safari animals. The main model is a giraffe while the B-models are the deers and a lion respectively.
I usually don't build the B-Models because I wanted to quickly jump into action and build a custom Transformer , after building the official main model of LEGO sets (giraffe, in this case). However.... I did build the deers as well. and plan to build the lion too.... but as the months go by.... I've forgotten to do so!
Below is one of my favorite Transformer made using LEGO 31150
Recently, LEGO teased us with upcoming sets for the second half of 2026. And finally..... a Creator set featuring a Lion was discovered (below)
My brain started working after seeing the photos of set above and thought... "I can build a Transformer Lion with that set". Not soon after..... I found out I have yet to build the lion model from the earlier mentioned set 31150! At that point...I had build up (no pun intended) intense desire to build a Transformer Lion instead with 31150. So project Lio Convoy was initiated !!
ABOUT PROJECT LIO CONVOY
Lio Convoy is the main protagonist/leader of team Maximals from Japanese Beast Wars II cartoon series. And he turned into a lion obviously!! Even though I'm not a fan of Transformers Beast Wars franchise, I did give exceptions to characters like Lio Convoy and a dozen others.
He has a pinky backside from the sunburn in the hot climate !
I've lost an important piece (I need all 9 of them) that almost caused me to defer publishing this project , but with some camera tricks, I decided to proceed.Keep reading to find out more!

My literal last minute improvement to this built was lengthen his tail by an extra 1 stud , before photoshoot took place/

TRANSFORM UHMMM... MAXIMIZE!
The earlier mentioned missing one crucial piece is the black 1x1 triangle piece. I need all 9 from the set (31150) where 8 of them went to become the lion paws, and one for robot mouthplate. That's why I am not revealing his headshot up to this point.
ROBOT MODE
Since his face is prominently shown in robot mode photos, I've taken one black triangular piece from the paw to become his mouthplate. The missing paw is substituted with very similar black piece not from this set.
In the original toy/character of Lio convoy , his lion legs ended up jutting out on his robot arms. I personally dislike such design. But for the sake of replicating this character to the tee ... I follow the design anyway. (and it's less taxing for my brain too)
MORE ACTION POSES
I found myself being profoundly fussy on how to scuplt his chest. The final design above took me at least 5 redesigns and many hours of work.
