This could just be my best Dragon Megatron creation for the whole of 2025!!
RECAP!
Before I initiate this project, I had made two dragon Megatrons using two different LEGO sets. And I kept them *intact till now because I wanted them to be included in the photos alongside this latest dragon Megatron.
*I was dying to dismantle them earlier to build new creations but I kept my patience !
ABOUT LEGO SET 31161: MEDIEVAL DRAGON
When I first set my eyes of this set, a dragon Transformer is imminent. And so... I started my maiden project using this set by building a two headed dragon Transformer! (Free tutorial below)
Like many first Transformer I made using one particular LEGO set.... I preferred to take it easy and warm myself up to the parts found in those sets. This means the output will be a simple one. After I gotten myself used to the set.... I will move up a notch and build more "refined" Transformers using them.
ABOUT THIS PROJECT: DRAGON MEGATRON
The main model for set 31161 is a Medieval looking winged dragon. So I found building a Dragon Megatron using it to be easier than building his previous two peers ( using Majestic Tiger and Giraffe sets).
The first thing I remembered doing when I started this project was to isolate the winged pieces of the Medieval Dragon. Those red pieces will be reserved for Dragon Megatron's wings , which I planned to build at the very end of this project. So he's pretty much wingless for 95% of this project duration!
Another reason for stowing away those red winged pieces is becoz they took up too much space in my tray, hindering me in building the dragon body with other smaller parts.
The first component I built was the leg (and feet). The previous Dragon Megatrons I made did not have ankle tilt I learned a lesson from there , and applied this feature in this one.
Guess which part of the design I am most proud of? Is it the wings, head or leg?
Nope...........! It's his backside. Comparing yet again with my previous two Dragon Megatrons, this guy here have a very smooth back , quite a feat considering it will become the robot arm !!
Note the tiny claws on the wings. My initial idea never included them. But in the process of using pieces of the wings to improve the dragon body... I playfully substituted those pieces with hinged ones, and discovered I can connect the claw pieces to the hinges too!
One big tradeoffs from having such a long leg is that this kinda made the tail seems puny in size. It can still touch the ground though.
A TRIO OF DRAGON MEGATRONS!
