Megatron , terrorize again!!!
ABOUT BEAST WARS
Beast Wars is one of the Transformers series from the 1990s, and fully animated using computer graphics (CGI). I personally is not a fan of this series.
However, in the early 2000s when I finished my college and started worked (read; with money to spare), I bought a lot of BW and Japanese BW toys at the local malls , despite the show had already completed its run. Then I sold most of them off after discovering organic-looking Transformers is not my cup of tea.
In recent years... in occasionally build custom LEGO Beast Wars Transformers, and some using official LEGO sets too (below)
ABOUT MEGATRON
Megatron is the most iconic villain from Transformes franchise...especially in the cartoons. In the original G1 cartoon that started it all.. Megatron turned into a gun...and in subsequent cartoon series... a tank, space cruiser and also a few types of animals too! Recently I made a few Dragon Megatrons using official LEGO sets as well. Below is one of them:
I had made so many Megatron and other bad-guy leaders from Transformers, that they deserve a dedicated playlist ( below)
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
In Beast Wars series, one of Megatron's alternate mode is a dinosaur/ T.Rex . And I actually owned the original toy of this Megatron as well in the early 2000s, but it was sold off about a year later.
Above is Takaratomy's Masterpiece version of Megatron T.Rex. And I took inspiration from its engineering to build mine.
Compared to the original toy , the dino head for mine is not as big. You'll thank me later on for this design decision.
Project initiated from the ground up literally. I started building the dino feet first, where the claws are angled outwards
In the original toy of this Megatron, the robot thighs are connected with dino kibbles, which looked pretty ugly . So I tried to delegate these panels to the back of the robot mode, but this caused the thigh to be too skinny compared to the calves. Finally a middle ground was reached... which is splitting the panel into 2 semi-circular halves.
You simply can't believe where the tail ended up as!!!
The dino arms was last to be improved before I called it a day. Initially it was overengineered causing the claw to pop off easily.
Despite the thigh partially fused to the body, the dino mode still can manage a few menacing pose .
TRANSFORM!
Dino tail ready to fold to the front ....
... to add more mass to the robot chest and abs.
ROBOT MODE
So, the original Megatron has a huge dino head forming half his arm. This is too comical to me...almost like a puppet. That's why I designed a smaller dino head instead for my LEGO version.
Black triangle pieces are simply perfect to mimic his teeth-like decorations on his collar.
When it comes to back kibbles in my LEGO bots, they're always misaligned and I must align them again in photoshoot for each shot. Suprisingly .... for this Megatron here... these 2 kibbles were well behaved without any frequent adjustment throughout photo session.
The back kibbles forming a V-shape, supporting each other almost symmetrically.

MORE LEGO 31150 GOODNESS!
Long before project T.Rex Megatron, I even made another Transformers T.Rex using LEGO ser 31150 too!! (video below).
