LEGO Transformer X-wing StarFighter (Star Wars)

LEGO Transformer X-wing StarFighter (Star Wars)

The force is strong in this one.

PROLOGUE

Star Wars is no stranger to many of you geeky guys out there.

This sci-fi pop culture has been around for over 40 years now. And in the past few years, I had built many Transformers that turned into Star Wars spaceships and vehicles, mostly using official LEGO sets. The most recent one was below:

And moving further back... I made a Transformer A-wing too!

ABOUT PROJECT X-WING TRANSFORMER

Well, I discovered that my project A-Wing TF above was made almost 5 years ago!  And I felt the time is right to build a new  Star Wars vehicle TF not using official LEGO sets.

X-wing was chosen because its arguably one of the most famous Star Wars vehicles out there!

Yes..... I remembered Hasbro officially released  Star Wars Transformers many many years ago, and I had taken a look at them to take inspiration from (below).

X-WING GROUNDED

Project was started 2 months ago,  and 95% completed in about one month. Then I applied a "customary" freeze on the project because I was uncertain on the vehicle aesthetics (like wing stripes) , how his robot chest design should be.

My initial worry  when building a Transformer that turns into winged vehicles (and creatures) is how to manage their wings in robot mode ,  when it comes to maintaining stability . And this challenge is literally doubled in this project since the X-wing has 2 pairs of wings with blocky engines / stubs!

The landing gears were last to be applied before I called it a day!

I wasted excessive (and unnecessary) amount of time in sculpting the dark gray vehicle back and also the hood where C-3PO can be docked . Since I don't have a LEGO C-3PO, I can't integrate it into my creation here.

Cockpit fits one pilot snugly. I didn't plan for this feature initially. It's something I discovered I am able to implement as I go along building. And no, don't ask me who is the pilot above. I'm not well versed in Star Wars universe.

X-WING IN FLIGHT

As you can see..... the  "X wing"  configuration on the X-wing is an important feature. So omitting this feature is an absolute injustice!

My initial idea was to have 2 of the wings form robot arms (like in official Hasbro toy) , but this means severely distort the wing aesthetics and  no more  "X wing" configuration.

TRANSFORM!

Fold wings inward!

Hey... this configuration looks pretty cool too. A few more photos is in order!

Le'ts continue to unfold the arms.

Unfold panels on the vehicle body to merge with nosecone to form legs.

Rotate legs and extend the heels.

Stand him up. Rotate wings 180 degrees. Raise his head from his uhmm.... crotch.

ROBOT MODE

Folded wings not just make for neater robot mode, but more stable too!

The wide heels are important to maintain stability with such a huge wing kibble on his back!

ACTION POSES

FINAL WORDS

I know many of you guys  are hoping that I produce more LEGO Transformers like this guy above .

I'll try my best to fit my schedule into building at least 4 of such creations each year. And I will not skimp on quality and rush on stuff.   Hope you guys can support me (especially my youtube channel below)   regardless of what kind of creations I made. Thanks guys!
