LEGO Optimus Prime version 5 , part 2 of 2: base and Super mode (aka Super Ginrai from Transformers Masterforce cartoon)

This is the end of yet another era....

...the era of me delaying my LEGO projects for years before putting a closure to them that is!

RECAP!

Last month, I published Part 1 of Project Powermaster Prime , featuring his regular cab/robot mode.

If you're new here, Please visit Part 1 first before enjoying this post (warning: tons of photos ahead!).

Done? Let's continue!

Between part 1 and this part 2 blog entry of my Powermaster Prime project,  I had published about 5  Transformers built using official LEGO sets! The most recent one was 2 days ago! (free video tutorial below)

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Compared to  earlier versions , my primary aim now is to simplify the transformation of the trailer /super mode , and maximize structural integrity along the way.

I intended for the vehicle to look  civilian plus futuristic vibe, with weapons concealed inside the trailer.

The black guns mounted on top were built in the final hours of this project just to conform to the original toy/character where Super Prime is wielding them on his both hands and they looked really cool!

WEAPONS DEPLOYED!

He spied with his little eyes that there are  a few Decepticon seekers up in the air for some target practice.

TRANSFORM TO BASE MODE

"Peel" off the trailer panels.

The white robot crotch plate was sandwiched between the legs and kneecaps via some studs. Let's unlatch them.

The robot legs seemed  ready but since it's the base mode we're heading towards....

...fold the feet back to their original trailer position. And unfold the platforms from inside the legs.

Unfold the ramp, and mini cannon.

BASE MODE!

Initially I implemented grapple arms to be unfolded out from the platforms (serving as a repair bay) , a feature I kinda obsessed over in G1 baseformers (like Overlord).  Then I decided to change to red  cannons instead , to provide additional firepower to this mode.

The trailer landing gears  help to prep up the front platforms .

I once had problem keeping the gray cannons upright due to   weight issues and weak joints. Solution?  Bulk up the cannon  at the other end to act as counterweight.

Since the  grip of the black guns  are studded ,  they can be connected almost anywhere on the platforms strategically

BASE MODE: POPULATION ONE

I actually planned to build a transformable Roller to add +1 to the population count, but I don't think I can fit him inside the already packed trailer mode. And it's not canon to the G1 / Victory cartoon anyway.

TRANSFORM TO SUPER ROBOT / SUPER GINRAI MODE

Note the gray rounded piece on the arms, That's the only piece thin enough for me to use in this project, and yet it never exist officially in other colors.

Confession! At around this point of photoshoot.. I discovered that I haven't refined the super robot head design yet . This is not obvious  in other earlier photos. Can you guess what was wrong?

So.. I hastily fixed the head issue , and resume the photoshoot.

Note the extra spurs jutting out at the back of his feet, widening his footprint. They provided additional stability to the robot mode.

MERGE THE CAB!

SUPER ROBOT/SUPER GINRAI!

Side profile compared to official Takaratomy's MPG Super Ginrai.

The red blue color accent on his crotch was taking cue from the official MPG version /

The decision to keep his thighs short compared to his lower legs , are for practical reasons. Longer thighs might caused him to topple in knee bending poses due to top heaviness.

I'm truly glad he ended up so. While handling and  snapping photos of him in various poses..... nothing fell apart!

ALL GUNS BLAZING!

AND SO... IT ENDS.

Well... not quite!

After Takaratomy revealed Godbomber to the public sometime back, I suddenly felt the urge to build him to merge with my LEGO God Ginrai here.

Hopefully this can be done and published before the year 2025 comes to an end. After all....2025 is the actual year where Transformers: Victory cartoon timeline started!!

Wish me luck!
