One of my favorite epiphany this year!
RECAP!
I seldom buy Ninjago sets due to their price and lack of prospect, but set 71746: Jungle Dragon caught my eyes back in 2021 with it's distinct color and "cheaper" pricepoint for a dragon set compared to its peers.
And I had many a few Transformers using the set above, with the most recent one during last year (video below)
Well, since this year is slowly inching towards the midpoint, I guess it's time for me to build something new with the set.
ABOUT SHOCKWAVE
Shockwave is one of the main primary bad-guy character from G1 Transformers cartoon series and he's known for his unique head with just one eye. He turned into a Cybertronian laser-gun thingy in the G1 cartoon.
Over the years in subsequent Transformers cartoons and media , Shockwave is given various type of alternate modes , from space cruiser to futuristic and abstract looking tanks, even tanks with 4 legs!
Below is the most recent Shockwave I built prior to this project
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Set 71746 has an abundance of wedge plates from the set could be used to build sleek alternate modes like planes.
While fiddling around with those wedge plates ,arranging them like a mosaic, I was hit with a sudden revelation.... "this looks like a pretty decent chest for Shockwave!"). So there!
The basic idea was to build something similar to tank Shockwave below.
The final outcome might barely looked like what I intended , but at least the chest (and head) are spot-on ... I hope!
The front of the tank were completed with minimal efforts. The rear design took me more than 70% of the building time with multiple attempts in securing those rear tank treads.
Some of you (including me) might sense a strong TF:One Megatron vibe from the tank mode.
And yes... I built myself a decent looking TF:One Megatron last year using set 31152!
The most fun I had was applying rounded parts to mimic tank treads.
Notice the connector between both front tracks, securing them in place and prevent misalignment.
TRANSFORM!
I must admit that I have used an "illegal" technique in tabbing the rear tracks (aka robot arms) to the tank body.
ROBOT MODE
Noticed the side butt-flap were folded down a lil (something I missed during the transformation steps earlier).
ACTION POSES
The shoulder and elbow joints can't sustain weight of the arm cannon. The pose above took me quite an effort to pull off!
