Video Tutorial: Macross VF -1 Valkyrie / G1 Transformer Jetfire using LEGO Creator 31161: Medieval Dragon

This is my forth  VF-1 made using official LEGO sets!!

RECAP!

LEGO set 31161 Medieval Dragon was released this year (2025) and I've decided to build more Transformers using it. Entering the 4th quarter of the year, this project marks my 5th one!   (below is the previous one)

ABOUT VF-1 VALKYIRE

VF-1 Valkyrie is an iconic fighter jet from Macross/Robotech anime series back in the 1980s.   It turned into 2 alternate modes: Gerwalk ( jet plane with extended robot limbs) and Battroid (fully bipedal robot mode).

The toy version of VF-1 was also retooled/repainted to become Jetfire, a character from G1 Transformers cartoon series.   In the cartoon/comics however, Jetfire is a completely different looking character.

The past few months ,  I had built  a few  VF-1  Valkyries  creations,  using official LEGO sets.  The most recent one was using set 10338: Bumblebee! (video below)

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

This project (using set 31161) was started because of it's predecessor as well (VF-1 using LEGO Bumblebee shown in  video above).  I planned  to build a new Transformer using Bee set, but before I dismantle  the VF-1 Bee, I must build a new VF-1 using another LEGO set and compare them side by side in photos.

This is my 4th VF-1 made using official LEGO sets,  and also the most challenging to get done. This is due to the limited number of decent sized plates. and classic bricks  to build the plane fuselage elegantly.

On a positive side,  building its wings is much easier here compared to the other 3 VF-1s I made earlier,  since this dragon set contains "native"  wedge plates of the right length.

With wings folded in.

The hook-like hinges on the stabilizers served a purpose which you'll see later on.

With cannon mounted.

TRANSFORM TO GERWALK MODE

The battroid legs are connected to the arms via 2-studs on each side of those legs.

Notice how the hooks on the plane stabilizers  helps to secure the kibble to the back of the battroid mode.

TEAM UP!

Before decomissioning  Bumblebee VF-1, let's put it side byide with my latest Dragon VF-1 for posterity!

VIDEO TUTORIAL!

The following video contains building tutorial for this creation EXCEPT for robot head,  cannon/gun and wings.  If you're my biggest fan, I'm sure you can build them on your own simply by staring at the photos hard enough!

However... I am providing COMPLETE building instructions for sale in the link below. Do support me by purchasing a copy. Thank you!
