Video Tutorial: Transformer Space cruiser from LEGO set 40417: Year of the Ox

I once hesitated to use this .LEGO set 40417 to build a Transformer...

..... due to its potential rarity.  This set is not purchaseable by retail means.

Set 40417 goes under "Year of the (animal)" theme in Chinese mythology/zodiac.   They are meant as free gifts  from LEGO purchases above certain amount, during Chinese New Year season,  and many of them were exclusive to only certain regions.  Set 40417 is the most recent one (2021 CNY)  and luckily , its available in most part of the world.

RECAP

Few years back,  the very first LEGO Tutorial I posted in my Youtube channel featured "Year of the Pig" LEGO set. The alternate built was not a Transformer per se, but a vehicle mode of a G1 fembot , Arcee.

And the year after, when Year of the Rat descended, I made a Star Trek-like Transformer from that set.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT SPACECRUISER

The vehicle mode of this Transformer was inspired by a LEGO builder that created very cool looking planes with half circular wings at the front and short, rounded fuselage on its back.

TRANSFORMATION

Guess which part took me the most time to get right. It's his arms! They need to be structurally sound so bending the elbows doesn't broke the arms. Especially when handling fragile brown LEGO parts.

ROBOT MODE

The pelvic joint design is unconventional compared to 99% of my LEGO Transformers. It only allows the thighs to be spread to the side only.

He might be restricted in the legs , but not for the arms !
