LEGO Springer v1.5 (updated with building instructions!)

Update 26/12/2014 ! Building instructions link / can be downloaded at the bottom of this article.

As you can see from my previous posting, I cloned some of my favorites Transformer MOC to be exhibited. During the cloning process, I redesigned a few of them to be more stable and won't easily topple over from minor tremors on the display table. Springer (made in 2009)  ended up being redesigned almost 50% ,mainly on the torso and below.

Kidzexpo 2014

Well it's been 2 weeks since  Kidexpo ended . I must say the whole experience was really fun and it's not just about getting my MOCs exhibited , but meeting likeminded AFOLs (Adult Fans of LEGO) and had a real good time tinkering with each other's display (managed to get some of my 'bots up there at the LEGO City scene, battling other mechs by the roadside, and perching on top of buildings and castle towers too!

Quickie of the Week #13: 4 days to LOM LUG Exhibition @ Kidzexpo 2014

Last week I saw myself cloning Blurr and Scavenger to be exhibited the upcoming exhibition under the upcoming Lego fans of Malaysia (LOM) LEGO User Group (LUG) banner,   as part of the highlights in Kidzexpo

Well, making a copy of Blurr was pretty eventless.. with a bit of retooling on the shoulder . however.. .Scavenger required a bit more work....

Quickie of the Week #12: Preparing for Upcoming TCE Kidzexpo 2014!

As a proud member of Legofans of Malaysia (LOM) LEGO User Group (LUG) ,I am given an opportunity to showcase some of my beloved MOCs in the upcoming TCE Kidzexpo 2014 in Midvalley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia (my home country, obviously =)

This event will take place on Dec 05 - 07. For those of you who happens to be nearby (business or leisure trip or simply living in Klang Valley), do drop by to take a look. You might see me lingering around the hall admiring MOCs made by my fellow LOMers too.

I have much to write so this post is not really a "Quickie" after all. Let's go!

Quickie of the Week #11: I love mini ball-joints! and some design highlights

In my current project, I am slowly endearing myself to the mini balljoints introduced by LEGO recently (found in Mixels and Chima Legend Beasts)... and my conclusion; I love them I'm gonna stockpile them by the dozens for my future use.

The component above started off using rigid hinged parts but  I couldn't make them to fold to desired position to form  robot feet,  so I modified it by introducing the mini balljoint.

LEGO Beast Wars Dinobot Part 2: Robot mode

Please check out Part 1 for the beast mode and transformation steps before you proceed.

LEGO Beast Wars Dinobot Part 1: Dinosaur mode and transformation sequence

This project is a commission piece requested by a fellow Transformers fan. Even though I am a TF fan myself, I preferred to build LEGO Transformers inspired from G1 characters from the 80's series, and Japanese Transformers from the early 90's.  And that's about it. However, I seldom turn down a good challenge although I'm not really a fan of Beast Wars series.

Before I get started , I googled photos of Beast Wars Dinobot and checked whether I have enough brown or similar colored LEGO parts to pull this off....

Quickie of the Week #9: Work in Progress / design highlights

Let's start with these common pieces =)

The pieces above are common hinged plates with frictions. (let's call them 1-finger hinge and 2-finger hinge respectively).

In my current project, I am not using them as hinges however...

LEGO Inferno Part 2: Robot Mode

If you're new to this page, do check out Part 1 of Inferno to view the vehicle mode. Done? Great.... let's proceed ....

LEGO Inferno Part 1: Vehicle Mode

Inferno is an Autobot fire engine from G1 Transformers cartoon series. The inspiration to build him came while I was working on my previous MOC, Towmecha.  This is due to the core design of truck-cab-as-robot-chest, and also availability of 4 pieces of ladder from my LEGO set 60060: Auto Transporter.

Quickie of the week #8: Transformation Highlights

Transformation special highlights on my work-in-progress.

Towmecha TM-6656 , Highway Defender!

Prologue

Afters years of resisting social media (read: no Facebook account), I managed to focus on doing the things I like with minimal interruptions (so it seems). But this came at the expense of not getting much exposure . This year  I made a point to mingle around more because it's getting pretty lonely here .

I managed to join a few local AFOL groups and I am enlightened with the passion all over, especially on fellow MOCers and collectors of vintage sets. So this was brought to my attention again....

Yes.... my very first LEGO set as a kid! I'm not sure if having a different "first LEGO set" will change my subsequent destiny much , but this set 6656 is the seed that started it all.

While remisnicing the good "young" times, a bulb just lighted up on top of my head....

100,000 Hits Special!

My blog finally hit 100,000  visits !!  Well  that was about 2 weeks ago but I was holidaying in Port Dickson when that happened. I was thinking of a special post to commemorate that since then. Why not I let my ensemble of MOCs do the talking =)

Lead by my first Optimus Prime MOC in the middle  (building instructions here), the earliest MOC of the lot, a BIG BIG THANK YOU to you guys out there for the support.

Metalhide version 1.2 announced!

It had been quite eventful the last few weeks  for bricklabel.net , as reviews are coming in for our first product Metalhide.  Click below to view these reviews:

However, I'm not resting on my laurels yet!  The much-needed constructive criticisms and comments spurred me to improve this MOC even further and I am proud to announce that it's finally done!

LEGO 31023 Alternate Mode: Skyracer with instructions

Set Creator 31023 is my favorite LEGO set so far this year (2014). This is because this gem of a set have 3 very solid alternate modes (which doesn't come often in a typical Creator Set) , and the building techniques are very fulfilling for me during my play with it. After spending  a week or so indulging on this set, it's time for a customary MOC using it.

As usual, if possible, the MOCs I made from official sets will be "more than meet the eyes". And this is no exception.

Quickie of the week #7: 31013 Alternate MOC Mech

After finishing my Transformers MOC ,I usually take  a bit of time off to unbox some LEGO sets and play around with them . One of them,  is set 31013 below.

LEGO Ultra magnus: Part 3 of 3 (Robot mode)

If you're new here, please click below to see previous parts.
OK . Assuming you're done with the above (which  I insist you do).... then let's proceed with the final instalment of LEGO Ultra Magnus.

A Lil' Recap

This MOC is inspired by Ultra Magnus, from G1 Transformers cartoon series. The original toy of UM is literally a brick ..consisting of a white Optimus Prime combined with the armor transformed from the car carrier trailer he towed.

LEGO Ultra Magnus: Part 2.5 of 3 (Transformation photos and videos)

Firstly, I didn't plan for this (post) earlier. But after finding out the photos I'm planning to publish soon (plus the videos I've shot), UM transformation sequence merits its own post entry. I guess by dedicating one just for the transformation, I can avoid causing photo fatique later when post number #3 is published on UM robot mode.

And oh yes, if you're new here. Please visit part 1 and part 2 of Ultra Magnus below:

LEGO Ultra Magnus: Part 2 of 3 (cab mode)

If you haven't read part 1 yet, click here to do so.  Otherwise..... enjoy!

LEGO Ultra Magnus: Part 1 of 3 (vehicle mode)

Ultra  Magnus  is a G1 Transformers character whose toy shared  the same cab mould as G1 Optimus. So the original toy version transformed into a white colored Prime robot, with his car carrier forming an exo-skeleton/armor for him... increasing his size tremendously.

I am splitting this MOC photos to be published in few parts. This first and second part will focus solely on the vehicle modes, because of the sheer number of photos I wish to share with all you guys!

Let's go!

LEGO Ultra Magnus: A retrospective reminiscent

While setting up my current Ultra Magnus MOC for photoshoot, I've just found out my SD cards were totally unusable (yes, all 3 of them... one being a microSD). So I'm stuck with the limited internal storage in my digicam to be utilised.  Since I only managed to snap just half a dozen photos  so far, I'd guess why not I prepare this article to let you guys know about my past UM creations.

Quickie of the week #6: Work in Progress ,counting down to Ultra Magnus!

I'm currently putting finishing touches to Ultra Magnus. Since it's been a while since I update my blog, here's a tiny sneakpeek of this MOC so far.

Do read on to view some pretty interesting photos on how I engineer the leg transformation.

Quickie of the Week #5: Dilemma! Dilemma!

Current work in progress is 90% done now, albeit some parts of the right color require a visit to bricklink.com soon.  I'm now at a crossroad. Which design should I go for ?

Quickie of the Week #4: I'm in c2age & Work in Progress

Today is pretty eventful. I've just took some of my LEGO creations to be exhibited under Transmy booth in c2age event in Kuala Lumpur, which is happening right now and tomorrow . For those who are nearby , here's the only chance to see my LEGO Transformers in the flesh (the other option would be paying me a visit to my humble house =)

For those who are smart enough to follow me on Instagram (why aren't you already?) , you will have the privilege to get hints on what I am currently building with LEGO.

I would like to share my progress with you so far, especially when I managed to tackle challenging hurdles. Here is one fine note-worthy example:

Unlike most LEGO TF I built before (where I have to find ways to tuck in the robot arms inside the alternate mode snugly ),  this one is different. Now I have excess vehicle part to form the arms and I have to find ways to "compact" them up.

LEGO Dreadwind

Inspired by G1 Dreadwind, the idea to make this MOC came suddenly when I disassemble a recent official LEGO creation to be put back into  my pile-of-bricks.  (no points for guessing correctly which set I am referring to!) . It had been on my display shelf for more than a year and I was in the mood to do some housekeeping. In the midst of wondering what can  I do with such a huge pair of wing parts, Dreadwind appeared into my brain. (before that I was contemplating on making a jet plane MOC ... and shortlist a few "contenders", namely Windsweeper ,Dogfight and Needlenose )

Anyway, original G1 Dreadwind (above)  is a powermaster figure, where a human-like figure (An alien race called Nebulon actually) transform into an engine-block-thingy , plugging into the toy, to unlock the transformation.  Since I'm not too keen of making a LEGO equivalent of that using minifigures, I skipped implementing it. But fear not! I have something else up my sleeves ... do read on =)

LEGO Optimus Pram / Chibi Optimus Prime

As you can see, this is not a typo I made on the blog title :)

Actually the term "Optimus Pram" suddenly popped out of my brain more than  a year ago, and every time I think about it, it made me chuckle :)   I gotta get this off my brain once and for all, hence the purpose I create this MOC.

I built this baby eeer baby carriage more than 1 month ago but kept it under wraps. Since today is April Fool's Day.....   let's roll him out and hope this made you all flabbergasted!

Shadow Wing: LEGO 31021 Furry Creatures alternate design + INSTRUCTIONS!

I was looking forward to getting set 31021: Furry Creatures since last year because the boxart itself showed incredible amount of parts that will be useful for my MOC. All those slopes and woah... it doesn't dissapoint! I opened the set last week and quickly built through each official model on  a daily basis.  I just want to dismantle it and harvest the parts and quickly MOC it!

[LATEST UPDATE 26th Mar 2014]
My previous MOC's instructions were painstakingly uploaded into my blog and arranged. I no longer wish to do that! Here I  have compiled my instructions in a PDF document for immediate download . Click on the link below fellas! (My first time using dropbox too!)

LEGO Powermaster Optimus Prime part 1 of 2

INTRO

First thing first.............. HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014 everyone!

I think my MOC needs no introduction. its OPTIMUS PRIME!! What shall I say more to describe him? OK let me start by revisiting the Optimus Prime I made many, many years ago (link below):

Back then, that's as close as I can get trying to make a Powermaster Optimus Prime . But then again, it looked nothing like PM Prime except for the basic concept of  Regular Prime + Trailer / Exo-skeleton = More badass Prime. But as the time goes by, I felt a need to do PM Prime greater justice since its one of my favorite G1 toy . Guess what, the whole thing (part 1 and part 2) took me a bit over 2 months and considering the complexity of this project and my life schedule, I'm giving myself a huge pat on the back for a job well done!
