LEGO Transformer Batwing plane (Batman 1989)

Completion of this project marked a big milestone!

PROLOGUE

Last year I made quite a few LEGO Transformers based on pop culture , and one of them turned int X-wing Starfighter from Star Wars.

As you can see, project X-wing is almost entirely in white. So after finishing it, I suddenly have an urge to built something predominantly black. So project Batwing was initiated around the end of last year!

BIG MILESTONE!

This year, I actually planned to start new LEGO Transformers projects  but decided to clear pending backlogs before I do so. And as the year already gone halfway through... I told myself that I simply must put project Batwing to a closure before starting new ones.

ABOUT PROJECT BATWING

The vehicle mode is based on Batwing plane frrom Batman 1989 movie. And in recent years... official LEGO Batwing 1989 were released  in various scales too!

90% of this project was completed last year and you simply can't believe how my perfectionism crept in to slow it down to snail's pace this year , until the last 2 weeks when I decided enough is enough!

All black vehicle usually makes it hard for details to pop out in photos . This is where I apply my creative license to apply a bit of gray on the surface.

The cockpit can seat one  minifigure snugly. I don't have any Batman minifigure with spiky tall mask, hope a white substitute above works.

Drone ejected from the vehicle rear to help Batman fight crime and chase baddies in tight corners of Gotham City.

Even though it should be simple, I  profoundly  spent  too much time trying to build this drone and what kind of weapons (or tools) it should be equipped with! I even fussed for hours on the design of the optical sensors of the drone. (round vs curved?  blue? green? yellow eyes?)

TRANSFORM!

ROBOT MODE

Another thing that regretted doing was spending too much time on his chest design. There are so many ways the white chest can be sculpted. I spent days just on that and until now I still doubt whether it's the best I can do!

MORE ACTION POSES

WITH DRONE TURNED GUN

I deliberately put 2 studs on the forearm to connect the gun, but the gun ended up connecting to his hand instead.

ALL DONE!

So...  after project Batwing is done,  I have given myself "permission"  to start new LEGO TRansformers project , perhaps more ambitious ones like a combiner.

In the meantime, do check out my LEGO Transformers  from pop culture,  or   based on G1 Transformers characters.
